She Is Safe (SIS) St. John SIS Advocates In November 2004, Michelle Rickett, President of She Is Safe (SIS), was guest speaker for our Thank Offering Sunday. In February 2005 women from our church began meeting together to read "Daughters of Hope" written by Michelle Rickett and Kay Marshall Strom. We read stories from this book of the witness and courage of women in the face of persecution and spent time in prayer for them, their children, countries and governments. We were educated about the plight of women in many countries who are abused and have little or no freedom except the freedom they have found in Jesus Christ. Our hearts were touched and in August 2005 after finishing "Daughters of Hope" we knew we wanted to extend our love by creating a SIS Chapter. Each year we select a project from the She Is Safe Organization (SheIsSafe.org) and schedule fundraising events. We meet the first Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November for a time of prayer and planning. Our present SIS advocates are: Marilyn Dafler, Suzi Justice, Carol Keener, Karen Mays, Doris Pollet, Cherie Reese, Ginger Roth, and Tami Webb. Our 2011 project is the Noah's Ark Center located in Timbuktu, Mali (Africa). This center provides food, clothing and basic medical care for the street children of Timbuktu.
